Vitamin D and melanoma

By Sathya Muralidhar, University of Leeds

Is vitamin D- the ‘sunshine’ vitamin, linked to melanoma? My research shows that vitamin D and its ‘partner’- Vitamin D Receptor (VDR for short) are both involved in melanoma growth and response of the immune system. Using genomic data (DNA-level information) from melanoma tumours has helped me understand how vitamin D affects melanomas.
